ABOUT

Hi, I’m Margaret McDonald

I am a registered, licensed dietitian with over 35 years’ experience helping people solve nutrition problems and improve their health.

I became interested in nutrition at a young age realizing that eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly really mattered for my health. I was out of shape and liked sweets and sweetened drinks. I wanted to be a cheerleader and compete in other athletics. I went to my mother, who was a registered dietitian, to learn healthy eating habits and to my physical education teacher to help me start a safe exercise program. With their help and guidance, I did get in shape and reach my goals.

I attended Auburn University completing my Bachelor of Science degree and my internship before graduation. While there I enjoyed the science of nutrition and dietetics and learning how foods we eat affect our health. I learned how foods we eat can harm and heal us. After Auburn, I worked in a university medical center and learned cutting edge nutrition care for people with a wide variety of illnesses. I was interested in the role of diet with heart disease and received my Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with research on the diet for treatment of heart disease.

For years I have provided medical nutrition therapy and diet counseling in hospitals, long-term care, hospice, outpatient clinics, and private practice. I can help you with nutrition for medical conditions or your health and wellness goals with better nutrition through individualized nutrition plans, one on one counseling, or in group nutrition and wellness classes.

Contact me. I can help you.
